How can traditional craft and skills be translated into the future?
15. Feb. 2023
The European Fashion Alliance (EFA) together with the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, organised the first Gran Canaria Summit last October 2022. Various leading fashion councils came together defining first actions that contribute to a mutual vision and mission in creating a better and more sustainable future in the fashion industry.
During the summit, the EFA organised a series of videos entailing different panel discussions or interviews stressing the driving points of sustainability, positive change, emerging talents shaping the future of the fashion industry.
In this video, Eddie Shanahan (Council of Irish Fashion Designers), Jacqueline Farrell (Princes’ Foundation) and Erla Björk Baldursdóttir (Icelandic Fashion Association) discuss what can be done on a European level to maintain the excellence of craftsmanship skills in a fast fashion era. An important step for the fashion industry is to support and understand the importance of traditional craftsmanship skills and its value not only in terms of price, but also in terms of culture.
